Bridal Makeup Is Not Your Ordinary Makeup

Bridal makeup is not just ordinary makeup. A bride has to look perfect throughout the entire wedding day - during the official wedding ceremony, then outside after the ceremony, while leaving in the limo with the groom, with friends and family for photo and video shoots and later on in the catering hall. Therefore, classic daytime makeup is not going to work (it is going to look bleak at night in the restaurant); traditional evening makeup can't be applied either (outside on a bright sunny day it is going to look overdone and tasteless). What kind of advice can we give to our bride so that she looks perfect from morning until the very end of this unforgettable day?

First of all, be sure to describe your wedding day plans to your stylist. Show him or her your wedding dress and accessories and outline the banquet hall layout. A true professional certainly will be able to create a complete image for the bride, but no matter how much you trust your stylist, a trial of your makeup is a mandatory stage in the wedding preparation process. You should not just visit the salon and let the master work his magic with your face, look at the mirror and then, after evaluating the outcome, wash it all away and go home. To make sure that this makeup really fits you, test it in "combat conditions," during a girls' night out, at a friend's birthday or some other event. The same advice applies to your bridesmaids and attendants.

What should you check for during the test of your makeup and hairstyle?

1. Did you feel comfortable the entire evening? Did you feel the makeup on your face, did you feel like rubbing your eyes, had the sensation that something was in your eye, or was there any pain on your hair's roots? It is not enough to make sure that you are not allergic to any of the products used by your hairdresser and makeup stylist - you should be comfortable enough to forget that something special was done to your hair and face three minutes after you leave the salon.

2. Do you like your new look? It is very easy to check: several times throughout the evening. Just take a quick look at yourself in a large mirror - there is no need to stare closely at your face, picking up every detail! You should see not just a strange beauty, but rather the "Ideal You. You should think, "Oh, I look good tonight" instead of "Oh, who is that?" If so, then everything is fine, and you have found your style!

3. Finally, how did you look when the evening ended? Did the colors run? Did you have to go to the ladies' room to powder a shiny face? If any of these things happened, inform your stylist. Maybe you will need to change the type of foundation, replace a compact powder with loose powder, or use a different moisturizer. You'll feel better learning all these things during an event that is much less important than your own wedding.

Experienced makeup artists can create specific makeup styles (also called "dramatic" makeup") that look good indoors and outdoors. However, if your wedding takes place on a bright summer day, it is virtually impossible to create makeup that looks equally radiant in a restaurant at night and outdoors in the afternoon. What should you do if this is the case? Create styles with your makeup artist for both daytime and evening makeup. The daytime version should be easily converted into the evening makeup - by adding some dark shades along the lash line and into the outer corners of your eyes, putting on brighter lipstick and adding some darker lip liner, and maybe adding a thin layer of powder on your face. Learn to do it yourself or ask one of your girlfriends to do it. If you are nervous about trusting anyone with this important task, ask your makeup artist to take care of it on your wedding day. This will make you look perfect in any light.

You should also have certain items handy on your wedding day if you will need to fix your makeup:

1. Foundation, blush and powder. When all your girlfriends and female relatives are done congratulating and kissing you, take a cute picture with all those "lip prints" on your face (your groom will make an even cuter picture when all the sisters, aunts, cousins and grandmas finish kissing him). Nonetheless, later on you will want to wipe all this "art" off with a wet towel and recreate the original look. Unlike your groom, you will need not just a moist cosmetic towel, but also foundation, blush and powder. Just remember not to let your loving aunt wipe the lipstick off your face after she has planted a kiss on your cheek, or you'll risk having a red spot that no powder will cover in the next 30 minutes.

2. Lipstick, lip liner and blush if your makeup artist used it in the original design. Even if you can eat and drink without wiping your lipstick off you are going to lose it after the first kiss.

3. Mascara, eye shadows and eyeliners. Most likely you are not going to need these, but you'll feel secure knowing that you can fix any "problem" on your face during a two-minute visit to the ladies room.

Makeup is a very important part of your look. It is going to highlight your features, add accents to your face, and bring charm and elegance to your look. Nonetheless, it is not makeup that makes a bride beautiful on her wedding day, but rather her happy smile and shining eyes! It is important to plan and prepare everything in advance, so during your wedding, you won't have to look in the mirror checking for smudges and missing makeup - instead, you can just enjoy the festivities. Don't worry about anything and know that you do look irresistible!
